All pools in Phoenix that meet specific guidelines must be enclosed according to Arizona state law. The pool meets the guidelines if it is eighteen inches or more in depth, intended for swimming, and is wider than eight feet. The barrier around the pool must be at least five feet tall and must surround the entire pool. There can be no openings in the barrier larger than four inches. If the barrier is made of chain link or wire mesh then the maximum it can be in size is one and three-quarters horizontally.
